KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Installation, operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, apparatus and instruments
• Examine electrical problems, identify source of problems and determine method for repair by electrical circuit diagrams
• Design and interpret electrical circuits
• Read, interpret and work from electrical circuits and drawings
• Assist with commissioning and maintenance of test facilities
• Competent to operate 11Kv medium voltage switchgear equipment’s within the Mintek substations
Understanding of electrical specifications and regulations
• Assist Supervisor with QA/QC inspections.
• Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do the jobs
• Inspecting subcontractor’s workmanship (Where sub-contractor work is applicable).
• Understand and interpret electrical laws, codes, rules and SANS 10142 standards pertaining to electrical construction and maintenance
• Test individual plant components or system as per prescribed procedures to ensure that the overall plant function is achieved
• Understand electrical network reticulation of Mintek
Adhere to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) policies and procedures
• Perform risk assessments for every task assigned (HIRA).
• Take control of the workmanship and safety of trade workers/operators.
• Ensure that Mintek’s safety standards and procedures are sustained with regard to electrical work and to uphold prescribed safety standard procedures in his workspace.
• Recommend improved work practices and amendments to procedures affecting workmanship and safety matters.
• Assist the supervisor with performing Safety inspections.
Job duties of electrical workshop & field activities
This is the list of typical activities expected to be performed by a qualified electrician.
• Assemble, install and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, and apparatus using hand tools.
• Connect conductors to circuit breakers, transformers or other components
• Install and connect power and control cable to equipment such as motors and electrical distribution boards
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring equipment using devices such as multi-meter, megger tester, tong tester to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
• Place conduit inside designated partitions, walls or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
• Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
• Responsible for station lockout/tag out procedures as mandated by company policy
• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment based on job specifications and local codes
• Work from the ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring and equipment’s

• Do corrective / preventative maintenance on existing installations
Minimum requirements
- N3/Matric plus trade certificate as Electrician
- Ideal - N4 plus trade certificate as Electrician
- At least 5 years’ experience in electrical field and plant environment and be able to do troubleshooting on the different electrical circuits
- Passed trade test and a completed apprenticeship in electrician
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a stressful and demanding environment.
- Prepared to work shifts in hot and dusty plant environments when required.
