Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Occupational Health Practitioner to manage and oversee the Occupational Health Clinic, ensuring the health and well-being of employees through effective occupational health practices, compliance with relevant legislation, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Job description

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
 
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Occupational Health Clinic and Wellness services in the organisation.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Occupational Health Team to ensure the delivery of professional occupational and primary healthcare services in line with best practice standards.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the occupational health team to achieve performance targets, ensure accountability, and foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and implement employee health monitoring programs, including medical surveillance and health screenings.
  • Advise Senior Management on occupational health risks, trends, programmes, and interventions to support informed decision-making.
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of best practice programmes in occupational medicine, environmental health, occupational hygiene, employee wellness, and occupational safety.
  • Advise employees and management on occupational health issues and best practices.
  • Liaise with internal departments and all employees to promote workplace health initiatives.
  • Maintain professional relationships with external contacts, including hospitals, community clinics and other healthcare providers.
  • Respond to workplace health incidents and coordinate appropriate medical response and follow-up care.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of occupational health policies, procedures, and protocols in line with legislation and industry standards.
  • Review, consolidate, and submit accurate monthly and ad hoc reports on occupational health activities, trends, and compliance.
  • Oversee processes related to incapacity management, fitness-for-work assessments, and programmes such as Hearing Conservation, ensuring consistency and compliance.

Minimum requirements

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Qualification in Occupational Health Nursing/Occupational Health (as applicable) and current registration with the relevant professional council (e.g., SANC).
  • Minium: Honours Degree in a health related, A Master degree field will be an advantage.
  • An added advantage: Certificate in Audiometry and Spirometry.
  • Minimum of > 7 years’ experience in an occupational health setting, including medical surveillance and clinic operations.
  • Proven supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Sound knowledge of South African occupational health and safety legislation and reporting requirements.
  • Experience in medical surveillance programmes, health risk assessments, and workplace health management.
  • Computer literacy and ability to compile clear, accurate reports.
  • Valid driver’s license (advantageous) and willingness to engage with external service providers.
