Mintek Post-Doctoral Fellowship Programme:

Opportunity
The objectives of the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Programme are to augment existing research capacity, build new areas of competence, and expand local and global research networks by:
·       Supporting the Division’s business model
·       Creating a targeted plan and build RDI portfolio to disseminate knowledge through publications to better align with future trends
·       Advancement and fulfilment of research goals;
·       Extend and deepen the scientific and technical abilities within the Division
·       Allows for active participation in publications of research papers in credible journals and research collaborations with various Mintek’s technical divisions, academic institutions, and other research entities
 
The Mining and Mineral Economics group is currently collaborating with other technical divisions internally within Mintek on various key priority areas and technology developments. Such technology developments require techno-economic, environmental impact and sustainability assessments, to identify preferred technology options as well as the required improvements in technological processes for industrial implementation.

Focus areas:
Possible research areas include (but not limited to):
·       Focus on market research and trend analysis in mineral economics and economic modelling.
·       econometrics, techno-economics
·       financial modelling & valuation
·       Technological forecasting


Key responsibilities:
 
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the direction of a senior researcher and is expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
  • Independently working on developing techno-economic models for a range of process technologies.
  •  Provide technical support to other researchers in the group working on similar projects
  •  Critical evaluation of existing technologies, and proposals for technical development to improve these.
  • The publication of research outputs from current and previous projects
  •  Development of new areas of research within the research group.
  • Writing new funding proposals to sustain research activities
  • Taking a leading role in organising and promoting seminars and workshops in relation to these projects (including communication, logistics, web content etc.)
  •  Writing peer review publications and preparing competitive grant applications
  •  Actively contributing to research seminars and workshops, as well as the broader research activities.
  • Willingness to coach and mentor next generation of researchers

 
 Qualifications
A PhD in Economics/Mining/techno-economics, and LCA assessments or social science or mining related studies
Skills and experience
  • Excellent technical skills
  • Good track record of research outputs
  • Good teaching and training skills (mentoring of postgraduate students)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work and lead in both a team environment as well as an individual
  • Professional recognition and registration is an added advantage.
