Introduction
Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Technician in the Biometallurgy Division. The successful incumbent will be based full-time in the Process Design Group of the Biometallurgy Division and will be expected to conduct highly complex, advanced technical laboratory analyses in the areas of heap leaching and heap bioleaching. The work is integrated in nature and requires in-depth knowledge of the specialist area. Will be involved in set-up of equipment and conducting complex research activities involving analysis and evaluation of research data to support an established research effort.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS INDICATOR
 
  • Ability to adapt standard research methodologies, protocols and procedures to meet operational needs.
  • Performs highly complex laboratory data acquisition, manipulation, reduction and analysis.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to unique, unexpected operational research issues and problems.
  • Selects, modifies and adapts equipment, facilities and instrumentation to specific project requirements.
  • Reviews experimental and test results to ascertain their validity and the reliability of the data and to ensure proper functioning of the equipment.
  • Participates in the design of experiments and may develop and coordinate specific aspects of the research.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety and other SHEQ standards.
  • Compiles data and computes results, ensuring quality control and compliance with protocols, and provides comprehensive analysis of results to researchers.
  • May lead, guide and train staff and students in the use of equipment and facilities.

Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Min: BTech in Chemical/metallurgical engineering
  • At least 3 years of heap or heap bioleaching experience
