Introduction
Mintek has an exciting opportunity for an Executive Manager, Mineral Processing. The Executive Manager: Minerals Processing is responsible for providing a comprehensive range of metallurgical services at laboratory and pilot plant scale in the broad areas of flotation, physical separation and sample preparation. The person will be responsible for leading the Discipline technically including the development of the Discipline RDI strategy.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPAs) & PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
 
Leadership
  • Live the Mintek Values, foster a culture of collaboration within Mintek.

Strategy
  • Drive the Discipline RDI strategy and operations and develop plans for the implementation of the strategy.
  • Support the Discipline business development and commercialisation and manage the execution of the strategic programmes.
 
·      Financial Sustainability
  • Secure the Discipline Budget.
  • Balance the RDI portfolio Funding and commercial targets as agreed.
  • Ensure that there is effective inter Discipline collaborations between Clusters to ensure that targets are met.
 
·      People and Planning
  • Ensure that the core RDI Discipline plans are aligned with Mintek’s strategy and the needs of the Cluster market.
  • Ensure that adequate Discipline planning is done to ensure effective delivery of the plans.
  • Ensure that there is an adequate pipeline of commercial and business leads to ensure that the Discipline can deliver on its targets.
  • Ensure that the Discipline is adequately resourced, with a particular focus on SET staff and resources. Also ensuring succession planning.
  • Drive the transformation agenda in the Discipline.
  • Contribute to the refinement and development of the Cluster strategy and plans.
 
·      Performance Management
  • Deliver on the Discipline KPI’s.
  • Undertake performance management for the Discipline.
  • Ensure that systems and tools are in place to monitor and measure the delivery of RDI activities.

·      Governance and Risk Management
  • Risk profiling and mitigation activities for the Discipline’s activities, including SHEQ.
  • Adhere to all Mintek’s policies and ethics.

·      Relationship Management and Reporting
  • Stakeholder engagement, including the development of relationships with new stakeholders, stakeholder management and satisfaction for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reporting on all RDI activities in the Discipline.
  • Commercialisation and technology transfer management for the Discipline.
  • Lead Co-development and Co-funding initiatives.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum Masters in Mineral Processing or equivalent (Engineering or Science).
  • Ideal: PhD in a relevant scientific field relating to the Discipline (Engineering or Science).
  • At least 10 years’ experience in research or knowledge-based organisations undertaking research in the Discipline of which 5 years must be in a research management position.
  • Experience in financial, HR, business processes, marketing, operations and business development.
  • Experience in business engagements and commercialisation activities
