Mintek has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Technician: Instruments Implementation who will be responsible to perform assembly, installation, commissioning and maintenance of advanced process measurement instruments at plants worldwide.
Job description

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
  • Be able to manufacture, commissioning at least two main instruments independently.
  • Bring in new ideas from self, clients requests for product development.
  • Assist development team as required with the aim of being product owner (commercialisation)
  • Complete projects within the planned budget and schedule.
  • Supporting sales to achieve commercial targets for the division/group.
  • Assemble, test and calibrate advanced process measurement instruments.
  • Installation, commissioning and maintenance of advanced process measurement instruments using established procedures both locally and internationally.
  • Job activities related to administration work e.g. Completion of business trip administration. Project Administration
  • Examine electrical and electronic problems, identify source of problems and determine method for repair by electrical/electronic circuit diagrams
  • Testing of equipment locally or at client sites.
  • Be available for standby, call after hours, weekends and during recesses (on a rotational basis).
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promote continual improvement in the workplace, adhere to and enforce all SHEQ requirements.
  • Assist the supervisor with performing Safety inspections.
  • Comply with client SHEQ procedures
  • Product expert/owner of at least one product line.
  • Drive continuous improvements (technical and cost) in all known products
  • Support R&D team with technical knowhow and experience in product development
  • Prepare and/or contribute to proposals under direct/limited supervision, including Open Call proposals.

Minimum requirements

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

5 years’ experience in the following:

  • ·         Proficient in manufacture, commissioning of at least 3 instruments
  • ·         Able to work independently and with others
  • ·         Share functional expertise including training of new personnel, WILs or interns.
  • ·         Knowledge of PC board design, population, manufacturing testing and setup will advantageous.
  • ·         Knowledge of PLC setup and/or programming will advantageous.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ·         B Tech/Advanced Diploma in Electronic Engineering or relevant
  • ·         Mtech / MEng or similar. (Or studying towards this qualification) will be advantageous.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

  • ·         Ability to work on multiple projects at a time, monitor team performance and provide supervision.
  • ·         Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills.
  • ·         Manage relationships with staff in own division, across other divisions; suppliers and vendors (engineers), clients/collaborators at technical level.
  • ·         Contribute to conferences and papers, journal papers
