Introduction
To execute workshop and plant activities towards the establishment and maintenance of pilot plants, laboratory apparatus and client products, as per prescribed designs, engineering drawings and / or plant measurements.
Job description

Assembly Fitter, Turning and Milling:
• Manufacture, modify and erect pilot plants/laboratory apparatus / client products or parts thereof as per detailed engineering drawings.
• Manufacture, modify, repair and assembly mechanical equipment and components on machinery as requested.
• Provide fitting and machining skills support during commissioning of test facilities or client products in accordance with project or task.
• Test individual components or plant as per prescribed procedures to ensure that the overall plant function is achieved.
• Execute quality control plant as per task and standards applicable to the task at hand – e.g. machining to close tolerances.
 
 
Interpretation of Engineering drawings:
• Plan machining requirements for a job based on engineering drawings.
• Assist Supervisor with QA / QC inspections.
• Inspecting subcontractor’s workmanship (where sub-contractor work is applicable).
 
 
Safety:
• Perform risk assessments for every task assigned (HIRA).
• Take control of the workmanship and safety of trade workers / operators under his control.
• Ensure that Mintek’s safety standards and procedures are sustained with regard to machinery and to uphold prescribed safety standard procedures in his wokspace.
• Recommend improved work practices and amendments to procedures affecting workmanship and safety matters.
• Assist the supervisor with performing Safety inspection.
 
Execution of Workshop and Plant activities:
Typical activities expected to be performed by a qualified Artisan Fitter and Turner:
• Set machines and manufacture to quality standards.
• Machine components as per engineering drawing requirements.
• Precision marking out and measurement of work pieces using Vernier calipers, height gauges and micrometers.
• Machining and cutting of materials using lather machines, milling machines and power saws.
• General welding, screw cutting, drilling and taping of holes.
• Use hand held power tools (e.g. drill, angle grinder) to manufacture items.
• Structural and component assemblies.

Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 
•    Min Education: Matric/N3 plus Trade Certificate as Fitter and Turner.
•    Min Training: - Trade test and a completed apprenticeship Fitter and Turner. (Lotus Notes, MS Office, CAD)
•    5 years minimum experience. 
•    Industry experience of at least 3 years in a workshop or field / project environment after qualification as a Fitter and Turner.
