Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer. The candidate must be able to design/develop and implement all aspects of the Mintek Energy programme. Ensure all electrical reticulated infrastructure is maintained in a serviceable state and kept available for use, ensure compliance to SANAS and other relevant standards of new installations. Job description
Maintenance
· Develop, update and review maintenance plans for plants and electrical infrastructure
· Ensure that all electrical assets are managed, maintained, and operated at their maximum efficiencies at all time
· Conduct engineering investigations and offer technical solutions
· Ensure work carried out meets required quality standards
· Conduct plant and equipment inspections
· Maintain and improve existing engineering processes
· Supervise all breakdown repair work, ensure timely execution
· Perform analysis on electrical breakdowns and provide solutions for improved uptime
· Develop, review, update, modify, and approve electrical design plans and work schedules
· Liaise with clients and other engineers to ensure maintenance and projects are completed to specifications.
· Advising on commissioning procedures to lower the risk of human and equipment life.
Project Management
· Manage electrical projects/scope on CMS activities
· Oversee the design, installation and supply of electrical systems
· Day-to-day draw up schedules, allocate time, resource and budget, as well as manage staff to ensure work is completed on time, to a high standard
· Define the technical requirements and feasibility of a project
· Outline timescales, costs and resources needed to design and deliver an electrical operations project
· Ensure the work follows strict health and safety guidelines
· Ensure compliance to legislative requirements
· Develop step-by-step project plans
· Lead a multi-disciplinary project team
· Negotiate with designers, engineers, contractors and suppliers
· Liaise with staff at every level
· Oversee several aspects of a project at the same time
· Ensure each stage of the project happens on time, on budget and to a high standard
· Share regular progress reports with the client and stakeholders
· Resolve any issues or delays
Health And Safety
· Identify hazards and mitigating factors associated with work activities
· Conduct risk assessments on all new tasks and dangerous activities
· Issue work permits where required
· Ensure a safe, positive work environment
· Issue lock-out permits and sign off on completion of task
· Ensuring that all substations comply with specifications at all times.
Budget
· Provide input to Electrical Maintenance budget
· Control budget allocated to cost centre
· Prioritise planned maintenance to ensure critical items are provided for in the budget
· Monitor materials and spares issued to minimise wastage
· Implement effective budget control measures by avoiding expensive routes in executing project and maintenance work
Procurement
· Initiate and specify procurement of maintenance spares and tools
· Onsite job evaluations i.e. Site visits, Problem Definition, and Resource Planning for work
· Liaise with Planning office in expediting orders
· Participate in tender specifications and evaluations
· Generate technical specifications for Procurement
Human Resource Development
· Identify skills gap in team and provide guidance on improving skills.
· Perform job observations
· Identify training needs within the team
· Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff and trainees
Administration
· Compile monthly reports on section performance and activities undertaken
· Provide regular feedback on status of projects
· Manage section performance
Other
· Implement and maintain energy efficiency strategies to achieve the required long-term goals
· Implement methods to reduce consumption
· Liaise with Internal clients on issues of maintenance that affect their plant and equipment.
· Manage maintenance contracts with external service providers and ensure agreed work is carried out as scheduled.
· Provide input into company policies and procedures.
· Establish relationships with clients, vendors, suppliers, other professionals, and expanding networks
· Assist Approved Inspection Authorities when executing statutory inspections and tests on site.
Minimum requirements
· Minimum: BSc Electrical Engineering
· Ideal: BSc Electrical Engineering, Pr Eng registration with ECSA
· Minimum training: HT Switching, HT/MV Protection, Energy Management (Ideal training: all the above with Project Management )
· At least 5 years’ experience as an Engineer.
