Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Head Electrical Engineer. The candidate will be responsible to design/develop and implement all aspects of the Mintek Building Maintenance programme. Ensure all building related infrastructure is maintained in a serviceable state and kept up to standard, while ensuring compliance to SANAS and other relevant standards of new installations and to provide technical guidance and management regarding the inspection, installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of all building related systems.All suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply.
Job description
MAINTENANCE
- Plan, organize and direct maintenance operations which ensure the most effective return on Mintek assets
- Initiate plans and processes to minimize maintenance costs through effective utilization of human resources, equipment, facilities, materials and capital
- Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout assigned sections for problem solving and cost reduction, both on permanent and ad-hoc basis.
- Ensure optimal availability of building infrastructure and related equipment
- Ensure that all building infrastructure and surrounding assets are managed and maintained up to standard
- Optimally utilise available resources to achieve effective preventative maintenance
- Manage customer generated work requests to ensure timeous execution of tasks at desire quality.
- Implement maintenance strategies and action plans to ensure that facilities, services and equipment support Mintek’s strategic initiatives
- Develop, update and review engineering processes
- Manage all breakdown repair work, ensure resolution and timely execution
- Perform analysis on infrastructure-related breakdowns and provide solutions for improved uptime
- Liaise with clients and other engineers to ensure maintenance and projects are completed to specifications
- Conduct inspections ensuring that compliance is maintained and that Mintek infrastructure and equipment is kept in a serviceable condition
- Advise Manager on the status of equipment and plant
- Ensure maintenance of the campus buildings for proper operations with the use of equipment in a safe manner using acceptable safety procedures
- Develop, review and update written maintenance instructions and schedules
- Provides technical assistance to staff and clients (Mintek divisions) in plant design and operation
- Prepare reports, analyze data and make recommendations for improving plant and facilities
- Prepare tender specifications for outsourced services and procurement of plant and equipment
- Ensure good maintenance practices are employed for mechanical, civil and electrical plant, equipment and facilities
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Oversee infrastructure projects/scope on CMS activities
- Review pre-construction plans and follow through with overseeing of adherence thereof during the project
- Review the technical requirements and feasibility of a project
- Ensure the work follows strict health and safety guidelines
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements
- Lead a multi-disciplinary project team
- Negotiate with designers, engineers, contractors, and suppliers
- Resolve any issues or delays
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Identify hazards and mitigating factors associated with work activities
- Review risk assessments on all new tasks and dangerous activities
- Participate in infrastructure and equipment specification for Mintek ensuring compliance with relevant statutes and standards
BUDGET
- Compile the Infrastructure Maintenance budget which is aligned to the maintenance plans
- Control budget allocated to cost centre
- Prioritize planned maintenance to ensure critical items are provided for in the budget
- Review materials and spares issued to minimize wastage
- Implement effective budget control measures by avoiding expensive routes in executing project and maintenance work
- Prepare, administer and monitor budget for infrastructure maintenance sub-division
- Prepare 5-year Capex plan
- Prepare business case for all proposed changes and improvement of systems, plant and equipment
- Assist manager to review overall CMS budget
PROCUREMENT
- Develop and manage the specified procurement of maintenance spares and tools
- Onsite job evaluations i.e., Site visits, Problem Definition, and Resource Planning for work
- Monitor procurement delays and intercede where required
- Participate in tender specifications and evaluations
- Review technical specifications for Procurement
HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
- Identify skills gap in team and provide guidance on improving skills.
- Create capacity in human resources through training and development to realise above requirements
- Identify training needs within the team
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff and trainees
- Maintain a productive team environment within the area of responsibility
ADMINISTRATION
- Compile monthly reports on section performance and activities undertaken
- Provide regular feedback on the status of projects
- Manage section performance
- Prepares and submits regular maintenance reports
- Plans and ensures timely completion of planned preventive maintenance programs
- Analyze complex operational and administrative problems, evaluate and recommend or implement effective courses of action
- Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards and management controls.
- Measure, record and report on utilities consumption
STATUTORY OBLIGATIONS
- Ensure that all procured and installed equipment and machinery in Mintek complies to OHS Act, Regulations and applicable standards
- Assist Department of Labor Inspector with his/her inspections and enquiries
- Ensure all statutory inspections on all Mintek equipment are carried out correctly and on time
- Advise Mintek divisional managers of the statutory requirements on the equipment and plant they are responsible for, support them to ensure that they are fully compliant
- Ensure that all contractors working on site comply to company regulations and OHS Act
- Participates in pre-construction sessions for plant, equipment and structures
- Personally respond to inquiries and complaints from Health and Safety Inspectors as far as equipment is concerned.
- Carry GMR 2(1 or 7) appointee’s duties.
OTHER
- Respond to emergency situations as necessary
- Assume the responsibilities of the departmental head in the absence of the Manager.
- Develop energy efficiency strategies to achieve the required long-term goals
Minimum requirements
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and GCC factories
- B.Sc Electrical Engineering
- Ideal: MSc, GCC
- 5 years of Engineering experience and 2 years as a Senior Engineer
