Introduction
Mintek has an exciting opportunity for a Library Information Administrator who plays a crucial role in facilitating access to library resources and ensuring smooth lending services for library users. They are responsible for assisting users in locating and borrowing materials, managing circulation activities, interlibrary loans and maintaining accurate records of library transactions. Additionally, they provide general customer service and contribute to creating a welcoming and user-friendly library environment.

Customer Service:

• Greet and assist library users in a friendly and professional manner.
• Respond to inquiries, provide information about library services, policies, and procedures.
• Assist users in locating library materials and using library resources effectively.
• Resolve basic user issues or refer them to Information Specialist where necessary.
• Maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the library.

Circulation Services an Interlibrary loans:

• Check in and check out library materials using the library's circulation system.
• Follow up on all overdue library materials and collect fines according to established procedures.
• Process interlibrary loan requests and ensure timely delivery of requested items.
• Ability to research, locate, and access materials held in all libraries.
• Ability to proficiently use the online catalog, OCLC database, other bibliographic tools, and databases.
• Experience with library cataloguing and classification systems.

Shelving and Organization:

• Sort and shelve library materials in their appropriate locations according to library classification systems.
• Conduct shelf-reading activities to ensure accurate placement of materials.
Collection Maintenance:
• Identify damaged or missing items and initiate appropriate actions, such as repairs or replacement orders.
• Assist with the weeding and deselection of outdated or damaged materials.
 
Technology and Equipment:

• Assist users with basic computer operations, printing, scanning, and copying services.
• Troubleshoot minor technical issues with library equipment, such as computers.
• Liaise with IT staff to report and resolve equipment malfunctions or software-related problems.

Administrative Tasks:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of library transactions and user data.
• Generate reports related to circulation statistics, collection usage, or other relevant metrics.
• Assist with processing new materials, including labelling, covering, and adding them to the library's catalogue.
• Maintain accurate records of subscriptions, including details such as renewal dates, costs, and license
agreements.
• Ensure all ILL invoices are processed and paid.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor of Library and Information Science or equivalent or related field
  • At least 1 - 2 years’ experience in related field
