The Advanced Materials Division at Mintek invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellows to conduct fundamental and applied research in the Advanced Materials Division. The successful candidates will provide technical support in the development, demonstration and commercialisation of products and services developed by Mintek. Job description

 

AREAS OF INTEREST:

  1. Design and synthesis of 2D layered nanomaterials and their plasmonic hybrids via CVD, exfoliation, or chemical reduction methods
  2. Functionalise 2D substrates with enzymes or receptor molecules to optimize SERS performance for specific glucose detection
  3. Design tunable 2D layered nanomaterials for incorporation into membrane-based water purification system
  4. Characterisation of 2D layered nanomaterials using techniques such as TEM/SEM, XRD, Raman Spectroscopy, AFM, and UV-Vis for structural, optical, Chemical, and surface properties
  5. Apply developed devices for glucose monitoring and water decontamination, analysing sensitivity, selectivity, and stability
  6. Publish research findings in high impact factor peer-reviewed journals and/or file for high value IP (i.e. patent)

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, materials Science, or equivalent, with a strong emphasis on materials research and/or technology development
  • Ability to develop high impact experimental techniques, models and prototypes from first principles.
  • Strong portfolio of publications in peer-reviewed ISI-rated journals.
  • Experience in material characterisation, electrochemical analysis, and modelling is an added advantage.
  • Specific training in these areas or Postdoctoral research experience in a similar environment is an added advantage.
  • Ability to attract industry and/or bilateral research funding is highly advantageous
  • Professional registration is an added advantage.
  • Experience with postgraduate supervision is an added advantage.

SALARY PACKAGE: Negotiable

Successful candidates must arrange their own accommodation close to Mintek and must make their own travel arrangements to get to Mintek. Candidates must be willing to undergo psychometric testing.
